| Resumen: | En un escenario simulado de test computarizado, estudiantes sub-graduados en una universidad de Estados Unidos resolvieron analogías verbales bajo condiciones de 3, 5,y 7 segundos de tiempo límite, a la vez que bajo una condición de no tiempo límite. El tiempo de respuesta (TR) de cada ítem estuvo fuertemente determinado por el tiempo límite. Además, la probabilidad de producir una respuesta correcta fue una función aditiva del tiempo límite del ítem y de su dificultad. En comparación con la condición sin límite de tiempo, la probabilidad de una respuesta correcta no se redujo sustancialmente cuando se introdujeron los tiempos límites de 5 ó 7 segundos. El patrón de abandono de ítems, y sus TR asociados, indicaron el uso de diferentes estrategias cuando se tenía que contestar con o sin tiempo límite. The response time (RT) for an item was heavily determined by the items time limit. In addition, the likelihood of a correct response to the item was an additive function of items time limit and items difficulty. In comparison with the no time-limit setting, the likelihood of a correct response was not substantially reduced when time limits of 7 al' 5 seconds were introduced. The pattern of abandoned items, and their associated RT, indicated different strategies under time limit and no time limit conditions: attempting more difficult items when there is no time-limit, and therefore increasing the likelihood of an incorrect response. Finally, depending on the item deadline, the correlation between proportion of correct answers and average RT per item was heighten reduced. It is suggested that the meaningfulness of item RT as a measure of ability is afunction of the available time to cope with an item. (AU)^ien.
